Let's begin this journey together
Welcome! My name is Jacqueline Davis and I began practicing counseling in 2013. My approach to counseling is relational, collaborative, supportive, and evidence-based. In other words, I am here to support you in your journey with counseling. I can provide counseling skills and approaches and I hope to utilize your strengths and knowledge about yourself to help tackle your current concerns.
My past clinical experiences include outpatient counseling, long-term residential with youth, short-term residential with adults, and an active military installation. My counseling techniques include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Trauma-Informed, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Relational, Narrative, Solution-Focused, and Strength-based.
I am currently working with adults virtually and in-person. Virtually means that I can work with anyone in California and sessions are either video or phone. This can give you some flexibility to schedule that 50 minute session during a time that works for you with no need to drive to the session or find parking! In-person sessions are in Julian, CA. In-person sessions can reduce the issues caused by internet connectivity, and give you a safe space if you can't find privacy for a virtual session. Both forms have their pros and cons which we can discuss further. Some of the areas that I work on with individuals include symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, transitions, substance use and relationships.
I work with all adults, although I am a Certified First Responder Counselor (CFRC) and I do have additional training to work with first responders, the military, and their family members. A message for all active military, veterans, first responders, and family members: Your sacrifice and work is what keeps us all safe. Being a first responder means making sacrifices that can take a toll on you and your family. It can be beneficial to share those experiences or, when possible, find ways to increase balance and self-care. Being a first responder also means that you are likely to experience or witness trauma. In those situations, having someone to share those experiences with and find healthy ways to cope can allow you to remain ready. You are not alone in this mission!
You put your life on the line every day to ensure the safety and well-being of others. This also includes your family members because while you are helping us, you are away from them and potentially missing some important things. They also play a big role in helping you to feel supported and appreciated at home. Please know those sacrifices do not go unnoticed. For those reasons, and more, it is vital that you make your self-care and wellbeing a priority. If you are not mission ready, you cannot perform to the best of your ability.
I have both personal and clinical experiences with the first responder community that make me culturally competent to offer support and provide feedback, skills, and resources. I am very grateful to my husband for his time in the military and as a first responder. His sacrifices and insights have helped me to grow and understand more from his perspective and as a partner to a first responder. I have completed a certification course to become a CFRC and I also participate in ride alongs when possible. Clinically, I have worked with active duty military members and their family members on a military installation. I was able to make myself part of their environment and would often be present in work areas for conversations and support. I also attended command meetings with leadership to discuss the needs and climate of the unit. Attending community gatherings allowed me to increase comfort levels and decrease the stigma of talking about mental health concerns. I love partnering with other counselors and organizations that offer support and decrease stigma to ask for help when needed.
I appreciate you taking the time to read about my practice and I am looking forward to learning more about you!
